Himachal Pradesh is a state in the northern part of the country. Situated in the western Himalayas, it is predominantly a mountainous region. With almost 90% of the population living in rural parts of the state, Agriculture, horticulture and Tourism are the most important constituents of state economy. Agriculture contributes to about 9.4% to the net state domestic product. It is the main source of income and employment in Himachal. About 90% of the population in Himachal depends directly upon agriculture. The main cereals grown include wheat, maize, rice and barley with major cropping systems being maize-wheat, rice-wheat and maize-potato-wheat. Pulses, fruits, vegetables and oilseeds are among the other crops grown in the state.
Himachal Pradesh is one of the most literate states in the country. The standard of education in the state has reached a considerably high level as compared to other states in India with several reputed educational institutes for higher studies. Thus, we decided to start our second skills university in the state of Himachal Pradesh with a focus on Food and Agriculture.

FACULTIES

Our University has introduced the Faculty of Sanskrit and Vedic studies to integrate our rich cultural heritage into our modern teachings. We are trying to popularize the ancient Vedic knowledge using modern teaching methods like seminars, memorial talks, workshops. Studies and researches in Sanskrit and Vedic Knowledge are being conducted intensively in Universities / academic institutions all over the world. Sanskrit is a language of ancient India with a history going back around 3500 years. t is the primary liturgical language of Hinduism and the predominant language of most works of Hindu philosophy as well as some of the principal texts of Buddhism and Jainism. The body of Sanskrit literature encompasses a rich tradition of philosophical and religious texts, as well as poetry, music, drama, scientific, technical and other texts. It continues to be widely used as a ceremonial and ritual language in Hinduism and some Buddhist practices such as hymns and chants. Sanskrit is the only scientific language which has no difference between hearing, reading and writing. We will inculcate the original teachings of Sanskrit and Vedic arts including pursuing research in Veda, Dharma Shastra, Literature, Kavya, and Natya in a modern environment with application in today’s time.
It’ll comprise of teachings like:
Learning and understanding the depth of our rich cultural heritage.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of Vedic arts
knowledge of Vaastu, Jyotish and Karmkand
learning to recite the Veda Mantras and learn all the Mantras for the sixteen Sanskar.

Use Computer Technology to mine the Indic Knowledge

India is one of the largest producers of Paddy, Wheat and pulses. Cultivation of these crops requires both knowledge and expertise. Our course will include teachings like Ideal conditions including soil and climate, field channels, levelling the field, Bund construction, treatment of seeds, type of cultivation methods, safety and security measures etc.

With production at 259 million MT, India ranks as the second largest producer of Fruits and Vegetables in the world. Our course will include teachings like new technologies in F&V processing, cold chain logistics, product storage, retail, packaging technology, food testing labs, latest equipment and technology.

Animal husbandry is the branch of agriculture concerned with animals that are raised for meat, fiber, milk, eggs, or other products. It includes day-to-day care, selective breeding and the raising of livestock. Our course will include teachings like basics of dairy (liquid food), food processing and preservation technologies required in any dairy and food processing industries, new technology in meat & poultry processing, modern abattoirs, cold chain, new veterinary technology/services, Food testing labs etc.

Buddhism originated in ancient India. It encompasses a variety of traditions, beliefs and spiritual practices largely based on original teachings attributed to the Buddha and resulting interpreted philosophies. In ancient times, schools of Buddhism existed which had various institutional and doctrinal divisions of Buddhism. The Faculty of Buddhism will teach the classification and nature of various doctrinal, philosophical and cultural facets of Buddhism. The teachings of the Buddha are aimed solely at liberating sentient beings from suffering. The Basic Teachings of Buddha which are core to Buddhism are: The Three Universal Truths, The Four Noble Truths and The Noble Eight-fold path. The students will be able to apply the Buddhist though of peace and non-violence with high ethical standards and social relevance. It would facilitate acquisition of specialized knowledge in Buddhist History, Philosophy, and Literature available in Pali, Sanskrit, Chinese, and Tibetan languages and their literature. Buddhism in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh can be traced back to the spread of Buddhism in the early 8th century. Over the centuries the practice of Buddhism has become deeper rooted in the region. Apart from the original practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism in ancient and medieval India, it is now seriously pursued by Tibetans re-settled at Dharamshala. There are several Buddhist monasteries in Himachal Pradesh.
The Faculty of Buddhist Studies will consist of:

The most up to date research shows that organic crops are of a much higher nutritional quality then their non-organic counterparts. This along with multiple health benefits have increased the global demand for organic fruits and vegetables. Our course will teach the know how of organic farming in India which’ll included teachings like cultivation techniques, quality of seeds and manure, required Ph level etc.

Food Technology is the combination of engineering, food science, hotel management, and home science. Food Technology course will be an advanced study of the technology and processing methods used to develop, research, manufacture, produce, preserve and process food and related substances.

Primary milling of grains is considered as a crucial activity in the process development of ready mixes for many popular and traditional foods. Our course will include teachings like operating the wheat mill Equipment & machineries, producing quality products from wheat milling, pack and Store market products and by-product of wheat milling.

With a rapid growth and ever evolving eating habits of people, bakery products have gained popularity among masses. The bakery products which include bread and biscuit form the major baked foods accounting for over 82% of total bakery products produced in the country. In this course we will understand the complete bread technology . Other focus areas will be bread manufacturing process, ingredients science, food science and microbiology, bread equipment and bakery management.

Farm management will cover the making and implementing of the decisions involved in organizing and operating a farm for maximum production and profit. It’ll include learnings of agricultural economics for information on prices, markets, agricultural policy, and economic institutions such as leasing and credit.

The shrinking world due to the rapid technological developments has led to a fast-paced globalization which has given rise to the requirement of a gigantic skilled work force across the world. India with its vast human resource, is heading towards a new frontier of skilling evolving from Skills Development short courses to Skills Universities. Government of India too is taking large strides towards skilling the youth of the country. Skill development courses in India equip an individual with the basic skill set required to enter an industry. As a result, many of them remain at the entry level positions without any opportunity of career progression.
